You wouldn’t think it would be, but It’s big news right now that its the end of the year. After all, haven’t we known about this coming for a while?
Yet we see everyone counting down the days, and to ring in the occasion they count down their favorite this or the best of that. Well, folks, we had a crystal ball at Top7. its been no secret to us that the year would end at some point, usually happening on December 31 in fact! So we had the brilliant plan to start creating and adding to our lists months ago to make sure we’d have the most comprehensive source of our favorites in all topics. Everything you loved in January are well represented alongside the ones you remember from October and November.

So what came out on top, you ask? Hold on. The fun part about Top7 is playing around with the filters! So let’s go through some of the more fascinating findings and look at where men and women didn’t agree and where the young and the adult populations championed different results, alongside the consensus results for #1s

In Movies of 2011, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows is #1, BUT Men put Rise of Planet of the Apes as #3, and women had it as #13. On the other hand, men had Twilight: Breaking Dawn as #23 and women had it at #3!
In TV Shows of 2011, Supernatural is #1, BUT Men like How I Met Your Mother at the #3 spot and the Big Bang Theory #4, while women have them at #5 and #7, respectively. As far as what the ladies preferred, women had Pretty Little Liars at #3 and men had it at #12.
In Songs of 2011, “Party Rock Anthem” by LMFAO is #1, BUT Men like “Give Me Everything” by Pitbull at #3 and “We Found Love” by Rihanna at #4 while women had them at #16 and #12, respectively. But women had “Rolling in the Deep” by Adele at #3 and “Last Friday Night” by Katy Perry at #4. Men had these two songs at #11 and #9, respectively.

And sometimes, even the #1 of a topic isn’t agreed upon either.
In Sportsmen of 2011… For men, Lionel Messi grabs the top spot, but for women he’s edged out by Cristiano Ronaldo. Djokovic comes in at #8 for women, the first tennis player appearance, but for men Djokovic climbs his way up to the #3 spot.
In Video Games of 2011… Those under 22 preferred Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 over Batman: Arkham City and it took the top spot away.
In Actresses of 2011… For those over 22 years old, Natalie Portman takes the top spot, then Emma Watson and Keira Knightley at #3. But for those under 22, Emma Watson takes the top spot then Nina Dobrev and Kristen Stewart at #3.

Best song for Christmas 2011 - Justin is almost as cute as a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel.

Steve Jobs is being mourned today by nearly every human I know and all over the interwebs. The New York Times even has an article entitled: Jobs’s Death Draws Outpouring of Grief and Tributes prominently on their website, which is to me surprising for someone who was a captain of industry and not an artist or revolutionary politician. This is akin to the reception Michael Jackson felt when he died in 2009, but even more digital.

He was certainly a visionary, and certainly talented. It just goes to show that in this day and age, we are as attached to gadgets and technology as we once were to art!

I decided to check out Steve’s presence on Top7, where he was also widely represented in many topics as a public figure aside from the topics that featured Apple Products.

He is definitely on this list for revolutionizing the computer - making it personal, putting all our musical records in our pocket at once and making the cellular phone into many people’s go-to computer.

When Steve Jobs spoke, the entire tech community hushed to hear what he would prophesize.

Its got to be somewhat fun to make technology that’s just so cool.

Steve Jobs is up here with many an actress that gets to make out with Robert Pattinson, and also the Lord Almighty, so you could say that’s a testament to his position in both the Tech World and the Actual World. And even the spiritual world.

And surely he will be in People of the Year 2011.

6. Men I’d Like to Date #171
Okay, so he wasn’t up in the top ten with Taylor Lautner and Johnny Depp, but he made the list. I’m sure he would have really interesting things to chat about over dinner.

7. Famous People to Hang Out With (Dead or Alive) #47
This topic includes everyone, ever! To crack the top 50 as a tech geek basically goes to show he’s considered the coolest geek there ever was.

The world has spoken, and here are five of the interesting findings on what most interests you:

Sorry Fido, but man’s best friend was #5 (Pets) after his actual best friends, (#2 Friendship.)

The overall #1 turned out to be Music over #2 Friendship. Because after all, your iPod is the only friend you’ll ever really need: human, animal, or virtual.

#10 Food is higher than #11 Sleeping. It’s why drive-thru’s are 24/7 and obesity is so hot right now.

Jennifer Lopez was onto something when she told us to dance the night away, grab someone and get out on the floor, because #12 Dancing is higher than #13 love relationships.

Last but not least, it seems that how you look is more interesting than where it gets you, as the voters put Fashion as #16, narrowly ahead of #17 Sex.

The top is a lonely place, only enough room for one. Whether its Team Edward or Team Jacob, Jen vs. Angelina, or the champion of the Premier League. One such competition for top status that we thought we’d leave behind in 1999 was the Backstreet Boys vs. ‘NSync question: who would reign as boy band kings?

We’re officially in not one, but two decades later, and Entertainment Weekly is still dissecting this question. But what they really don’t understand is that perhaps it isn’t a question of BSB vs. Justin and the gang. On Top7, it’s all boy bands after the crowning glory of the #1 spot, and the Backstreeters beat NSync by a mile - with the Jonas Brothers, Westlife, and even the Jackson 5 ahead of NSync in the pack.

It may be true that Justin Timberlake brought sexy back with his sweet moves, falsetto voice and brillo-pad hair, but the sum was not greater than all the parts of NSync according to the fans. The people have spoken: Long live the Backstreet Boys, at least in our hearts.

Superpowers for One, Superpowers for All!

Priorities are something that for most people change through the years. An eight year old boy can’t think past his next GI Joe or Transformers figure, while an eighteen year old boy has a decidedly different idea on his one track mind. An eighty-year old, if he can remember his priorities, probably has more practical things on the mind.

As it turns out, a lot of hypothetical questions involving priorities reflect that skew from age. When we asked people what superpowers they wish they would receive, 775 people responded. This was the general top seven results for the whole topic and all voters::

2 Flying
3 Mind Reading
4 teleportation
5 time travel
6 immortality
7 instant healing

However, interestingly enough, immortality in particular was a much higher priority for the younger voters! If you were under 15 voting on this topic, you helped propel this superpower to the #3 slot for your age group. On the other hand, if you were over 35 voting on this topic, you cared much less for forever-living and the item dropped to #7. Could this mean that the older you get the less you like life?
Or, perhaps its something else. For the young crowd, time travel was only their #6, but the over #35 set ranked it their top choice! So maybe this could mean that the older crowd doesn’t want to live infinitely as old folks, but rather prefers to re-live their glory days.
Perhaps their years sitting in traffic also influence why they care so much more about teleportation than the youngsters, or their years of backaches leading them to value instant healing a bit more too. But topics like this really go to show you what a difference age makes in priorities!

Which result do you most agree with and which do you think needs to change?

You might have thought it would be the other way around, but men actually prefer Lady Gaga for top female music artist of 2011, and women prefer Katy Perry!

Looking at the results in this form, you can really see that the women voters are the reason Lady Gaga is at the table.

And surprise surprise! Men bring over the Megan Foxiness.

Men also prefer God and Jesus while women prefer Michael Jackson.

In the most extensive poll of its kind, people were presented with the topic People to Invite to a Dinner Party. They chose from candidates real and fictional, biblical and historical, scientific and entertainment-related. And not only did they have all these diverse candidates to choose from, but they also had the ability to invite more than one of their favorite people, in the order of just how much they would like to wine and dine them. The musical entertainment around the table will come from three different royals: both kings (Elvis, the King and MJ, the King of Pop) and the Lady of Gaga.

Seating Lady Gaga with God and Jesus could pose some thorny issues since she just crafted a love song to Judas, but we’re all adults, and I think they can work it out. Personally, I would seat Tupac with Confucius, Isaac Newton next to Snooki, and myself next to Detective Elliot Stabler. But the community has spoken. And they have said “God, Jesus, and Lady Gaga.” The Holy Trinity for the 21st Century.
